Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy describes the cookies and other local storage technologies used on the memorea.pt website and in the event application, their purposes and durations, and how the User can give, refuse or withdraw their consent, under Article 5 of Portuguese Law No. 41/2004 of 18 August.
This is an English translation, provided for convenience. The Portuguese version is the original and prevails in the event of any discrepancy: read it in Portuguese.
1. Summary
Google Analytics is used only with consent and only on the public pages. The event application does not set cookies and is not subject to audience measurement.
- Home page and legal pages: the response to the cookie notice is recorded in the User’s browser and, only if consent is given, Google Analytics sets two cookies to count visits (sections 3 and 4).
- Event application (accessible by QR code), gallery and projector mode: they do not set cookies and are not subject to measurement, even if consent was given on the home page. The entries needed for the application to work are stored on the User’s device (section 2).
- Backoffice (restricted event management area): a session cookie is used, which is never set for guests or for visitors to the website (section 3).
The website does not use advertising pixels, social media plug-ins, or embedded videos or maps. Since 25 August 2026, fonts have been served from Memorea’s servers and are no longer obtained from Google’s content delivery network, which involved disclosing the User’s IP address.
Consequently, without consent to audience measurement, accessing the home page, the legal pages or the event application does not involve any communication between the browser and third parties, which can be checked in the “Network” tab of the browser’s developer tools. If consent is given, the browser also communicates with Google, only on the public pages.
Current option: checking in this browser…
2. Local storage in the event application
The event application (accessible by QR code) stores the following entries in the browser’s local storage, all of them needed for it to work. They are not cookies: they remain on the User’s device, are not automatically sent with each request and cannot be read by other websites. In the names, <event> stands for the event to which the entry relates.
| Name | Description | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
memorea_device | Random identifier, generated on the User’s device | To count the copies printed and prevent abusive use of consumables | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea_name | Name given by the User | To avoid repeating the name with each upload | Until the User signs out of the application or browsing data are deleted |
memorea.acesso.<event> | Access session for a restricted-access event | To keep the User identified at the event, without signing in again | Until the User signs out of the application or browsing data are deleted |
memorea.lingua | Language chosen by the User | To show the application in the language chosen | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea.tema | Appearance chosen (light, dark or automatic) | To show the application with the appearance chosen | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea.termos.<event>, memorea.termos-registados.<event> | Version of the Terms and Conditions accepted, and confirmation that the acceptance was recorded | Not to ask for acceptance again at the same event | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea.avisos-vistos.<event> | Event announcements already read | To mark the unread announcements | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea.convite-avisos.<event> | Indication that the invitation to turn on notifications has already been shown | Not to repeat the invitation | Until browsing data are deleted |
memorea.form-adiado.<form> | Form postponed with “Not now” | Not to show the form again during the same session | Until the tab is closed |
memorea.recarga-apos-deploy | Technical indication, with no personal data | To reload the page only once after an update of the application | Until the tab is closed |
memorea_device does not allow the User to be identified: it is a randomly generated number, with no link to the name, the telephone number or the device, and its only purpose is to allow the server to recognise that two requests come from the same browser. Deleting browsing data generates a new identifier and resets the count of copies.
The application also registers a service worker, whose only purpose is to receive the event announcements when the User authorises notifications on the device itself. It does not store pages or data and does not intervene in browsing.
The event application does not use Google Analytics: event pages are not subject to audience measurement, even if consent was given on the home page.
3. Cookies used
Google Analytics cookies — subject to consent. These are analytics cookies, not necessary for the website to work, which are only set after “Accept” is selected in the notice (section 4). From that moment, on the home page and the legal pages, Google Analytics stores two cookies in the browser:
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | To distinguish visitors, by means of a random identifier that makes it possible to recognise visits from the same browser | 13 months (395 days) | Google Analytics (Google script), on the .memorea.pt domain |
_ga_7JXN1DGDG9 | To keep the state of the current session, so that the pages viewed are counted as a single visit | 13 months (395 days) | Google Analytics (Google script), on the .memorea.pt domain |
The default duration of these cookies in Google Analytics is 2 years, and Memorea has reduced it to 13 months. Google Analytics may renew this duration on each visit, in which case the 13-month period runs from the last measurement.
- Only on the public pages. Never on the pages of an event, in the gallery, in projector mode, in the backoffice or in presentations shared by link, even if consent was given on the home page.
- No advertising purposes. Google Signals and ad personalisation are disabled, and Google’s advertising signals (
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalization) are always sent as declined. - Event names are not disclosed. The referring address is sent without the part after the “?” character and, where it is another website or an event page, limited to the domain.
- IP address. According to information from Google, Google Analytics does not log or store the IP address, using it only to determine the approximate location, after which it is discarded.
- Recipient of the data. Google Ireland Limited, acting as Memorea’s processor, with possible transfer to the United States of America. The data collected, the purposes, the retention periods and the applicable safeguards are set out in the Privacy Policy.
Backoffice cookie. There is a single additional cookie, used exclusively in the backoffice — the restricted area where the Memorea team and the hosts manage events —, which is never set for guests or for visitors to the website.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
memorea_admin | To keep the authenticated session of whoever accesses the backoffice with a username and password (strictly necessary) | 7 days | Memorea’s server, only for those who access the backoffice |
It is an httpOnly cookie, inaccessible to the page’s code and readable only by the server, without which the password would have to be entered for every operation.
4. Consent and how to manage it
Article 5 of Law No. 41/2004 of 18 August (as amended by Law No. 46/2012 of 29 August) makes the storage of information on the user’s equipment, or access to information stored on it, subject to prior consent, except where this is strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.
The backoffice session cookie, the entries of the event application and the record of the response to the notice fall within that exception, since they serve the operation of the service and not the measurement of its use. The Google Analytics cookies do not, as they serve to count visits and are not necessary for the website to work. They are therefore subject to consent.
Request for consent. On the home page and the legal pages, a notice is shown, until the User responds, with two equally prominent options: “Decline” and “Accept”. The notice does not prevent browsing or require a response and, without one, no measurement takes place and no communication with Google is established. The Google Analytics script is only loaded after consent is given.
Record of the response. The response is recorded in the browser’s local storage, in the memorea.consentimento entry, with the option chosen, its date and the version of the notice. This record remains on the User’s device and is not transmitted to third parties. It is valid for 180 days, after which consent is requested again, as also happens if the scope of the request changes. The record is strictly necessary since, without it, the notice would be shown on every page.
Changing or withdrawing consent. This may be done at any time, without giving reasons, using the “Change preferences” button in section 1, or the “Cookie preferences” option in the footer of the legal pages and the home page, which show the notice again. If consent is declined after having been given, the transmission of data to Google stops immediately and the two Google Analytics cookies are deleted from the browser. Data already transmitted remain subject to the retention periods set out in the Privacy Policy.
The introduction of any other technology subject to consent — advertising, embedded maps or another analytics tool — will be submitted to the same notice, with declining as easy as accepting, and before anything is set, with this policy being updated on the same date.
5. Deleting cookies and stored data
Deleting the website’s data in the browser removes all the items described in this policy: the local storage entries, the response to the notice (which will be shown again on the next visit) and the Google Analytics cookies, if any. On mobile devices: Settings → Safari/Chrome → Clear history and website data. On a computer, with the page open: developer tools → Application → Local storage and Cookies → delete.
To delete only the Google Analytics cookies, simply decline consent in the notice, and they are deleted immediately.
Deleting local storage does not delete photographs already sent, which are stored on the server. Their deletion may be requested by writing to geral@memorea.pt, under the Privacy Policy.
